Tennessee state Sen. Brent Taylor acknowledged on Tuesday that he sent unsolicited nude photos to multiple women, a admission that landed seven days before Election Day. Taylor is seeking reelection to the state Senate and running for the U.S. House in Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District. He described the photos as part of his past, using the phrase youthful indiscretions to characterize the behavior.
The Nashville Scene published the report on Tuesday, citing multiple sources who said they received or saw the images. One source stated that a person received a nude photo from Taylor as recently as 2021. At that time, Taylor was 53 years old. He has served in the state Senate since 2023 and has held government office since 1995.
Taylor released a statement following the report, arguing that the timing signals who the frontrunner is in the campaign. He said his wife is well aware of the past and that they have worked through it. He stated that his God and his wife have forgiven him and asked others to do the same. Taylor said Tennessee voters in the 9th District are more concerned about grocery and gas prices than about his family history.
The senator said he is running for Congress to stop Democrat Socialist Justin Pearson. Taylor called Pearson an ongoing public embarrassment if elected and urged voters to choose competence over chaos. He noted that his wife now has to relive the situation, which the two have already moved on from.
Democratic state Rep. Justin Pearson responded with a statement on Tuesday. He said men of faith, especially those who are married and in their fifties, should not send unsolicited nude photos to women. Pearson noted that Taylor has been married for 30 years and professes Christian values. He called the behavior a disturbing mischaracterization of predatory conduct.
Pearson said Taylor’s belief that the actions were a youthful indiscretion is ridiculous. He stated that career politicians have been abusing their power for too long. Pearson said Tennessee deserves leaders who respect women, not those who sexually harass or take advantage of them.
Voters in Tennessee’s 9th District will cast ballots on Nov. 3. The race includes Taylor, Pearson, and independents Dennis Clark and Michelle Head. Taylor remains the Republican nominee for the congressional seat.
