President Donald Trump will hold two campaign rallies on Sunday in Iowa and Kansas, just two days before Tuesday’s midterm elections. The stops, originally cancelled, were reinstated at the last minute as the White House looks for a final boost for Republican candidates.

Trump’s schedule includes a 2 p.m. Central Time rally at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque, Iowa, followed by an 8 p.m. Central Time event at the Salina Regional Airport in Kansas. He has won Iowa in three previous presidential elections and Kansas in two.

The Senate seats in both states are critical for the Republican Party to maintain control of the chamber. In Iowa, Democrat Josh Turek leads Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson by three points in a recent Marist poll. In Kansas, Democrat Adam Hamilton holds a narrow lead over incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall for the first time.

The last time Iowa elected a Democrat to the Senate was in 2008, and the last time Kansas did so was nearly a century ago. Trump’s national approval rating sits at 34 percent, according to the latest Quinnipiac poll.

House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana said he is not concerned by the polling numbers. “I’ve seen the voters on the ground. I’m telling you, the polls are wrong. They’re inaccurate. They’re underrepresenting Republicans,” Johnson said.

The Republican Party confirmed the dates and locations for the rallies. The outcome of the Tuesday vote will determine whether Trump’s presence helps or hurts the Republican ticket in these battleground states.
