An Amazon delivery driver was struck by an excavator during a dispute with construction workers in Hamtramck, Michigan, on Thursday. The incident occurred near Sobieski Street and Commor Avenue. Video footage of the event has circulated on social media, showing the construction crew appearing upset with the driver for parking in their work zone. Moments later, the excavator hits the driver.

Hamtramck police confirmed that the man operating the excavator was arrested. The construction worker has not yet been charged. The police department stated that the incident remains under investigation.

Mamoon Abuhamra, a resident living about a block away, said he was stunned by the video. “He just hits him like that and he doesn’t care? And he’s still going,” Abuhamra said. He questioned how a disagreement over a driver doing their job could escalate so quickly. “Who in their right mind would do that? Like just run over a person,” he added.

Abuhamra expressed relief that the operator was taken into custody. He noted that children regularly play in the neighborhood. “I actually feel a lot better because, as I mentioned, I do have nieces and nephews that play near the street all day, every day,” he said. He hopes the incident prompts a further evaluation of the construction crew.

Furkam Chowdhery, who lives across the street from the scene, said the incident has rattled nearby residents. “The senior citizens are scared of it and the children also saw it from different houses, and I think that’s not a good lesson for them,” Chowdhery said. Other neighbors reported feeling shaken by the confrontation.

The construction company declined to comment after being reached for response. Police are continuing their investigation into the collision and the subsequent arrest of the excavator operator.

The driver was working a delivery route when the dispute began. The excavator struck the vehicle while the driver was still in the work zone. The operator was removed from the scene and booked into custody. No other injuries were reported in the initial police report.
