BOULDER CITY, Nev. (The Clark County Tribune). The Boulder City High School girls soccer team has locked in its place in the 3A state tournament, securing the No. 2 seed from the South region for the first time since 2021.

The Eagles earned the spot despite falling 2-0 to rival Moapa Valley in the regional championship game on Oct. 31. The loss ended their push for the regional title but preserved their high ranking in the state bracket.

Head coach Kristin Shelton said the result was expected given the team’s performance throughout the year. “I’m not surprised we made it to state,” Shelton said. “These girls know how to battle on the field, especially when it counts and I believe their hard work and effort throughout the season led us exactly to where we are supposed to be.”

The Eagles finished the postseason with a 2-1 record. They defeated Virgin Valley 2-1 in the regional semifinals, with Susan Muir and Sophia Elburn scoring the goals. Lila Stankovic provided an assist in that match. The team recorded 20 steals during the game, with Muir and Kennedy Steckelberg each contributing four.

In the opening round of the postseason on Oct. 26, the Eagles beat Equipo Academy 2-0. Both Virgin Valley and Equipo Academy represented the South region at the state tournament last season. The Eagles enter the state tournament with an overall record of 11-3-4.

The team will travel to Sparks to begin the state tournament on Friday. They will face Northern champion Truckee in the opening round at Reed High School.

Shelton expects the level of play to increase. “The competition will be fierce at state and we cannot let down at all,” she said. “We know the girls are going to have to play at the top of their game and stay focused on efficiency. They have to continue to push themselves and give maximum effort.”
