Boulder City High School boys tennis won the 3A state championship on Oct. 24. The Eagles defeated Truckee in the final match.

The team secured its second consecutive title. The final score was 4-2 after extra matches.

Miles Alder and Will Teeples won their doubles match. Nathan Law and Chase Herbolsheimer also won. Seamus Lemon and James Peel took their match as well. Singles player Jake Richards also won.

Head coach Rachelle Huxford said the group had to dig deep to beat a tough opponent. "These boys deserve to be champions," Huxford said. "It most certainly wasn’t easy. We had to dig deep and play our best, but they got it done and I’m so proud of them. Truckee was a really tough team to beat, but this group came together."

Richards finished 3-0 in singles play during the regular intermission. The doubles tandems of Alder and Teeples and Law and Herbolsheimer also finished 3-0.

Huxford noted that the team shuffled its lineup and responded to the challenge. "I give credit to this group," she said. "We shuffled around with the lineup and they responded. They had the goal all season of being champions and they played like it."

The girls tennis team lost to South Tahoe in the semifinals. The final score was 10-7. Chelsie Larson and Lyla Gunson won 3-0 in doubles. Abrina Soares finished 2-1 in singles. Harmony Cook and Quinn Gibson won a doubles match. Brooklyn Koster won a singles match.

Huxford stated that the girls did not repeat their previous success but gave it their all. "The girls didn’t repeat like they wanted to, but this season was far from a failure," Huxford said. "They faced a really tough South Tahoe team and gave it their all. I’m very proud of them."

Richards also placed first at the 3A state singles tournament. The freshman defeated Ido Goren from Adelson 6-3, 6-3 at The Meadows on Oct. 26.

Huxford expressed excitement for Richards' future. "I couldn’t be happier for Jake," Huxford said. "He had big goals coming into the season and he played great. He deserved to be a champion. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for him, with him being only a freshman."

Lyla Gunson and Chelsie Larson finished fourth in the girls doubles tournament. They lost to Mason Goldberg and Solin Visci from Incline.

Miles Alder and Will Teeples will play in the boys doubles third-place match. They will face Ashton Ellsworth and Collin Hughes from Moapa Valley at home on Monday.
