Dominic Olivares will spend 100 days in a North Carolina jail following his guilty plea on Wednesday in Greenville.
The 30-year-old former police officer admitted to two counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Under the plea agreement, six additional counts were dropped, including first- and second-degree sexual exploitation charges. The judge issued two consecutive suspended sentences ranging from six to 17 months each. Olivares will avoid prison time unless he violates his eight years of supervised probation. He is also required to register as a sex offender.
Olivares joined the Greenville police force in May 2020. A department spokeswoman stated that he was dismissed on August 5, 2021. That firing occurred two months after the State Bureau of Investigation was brought in to look into a complaint about Olivares.
The SBI arrested Olivares in September 2025. At that time, he faced two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation, three counts of second-degree, and three counts of third-degree. Warrants issued during the arrest alleged that Olivares used a 16-year-old girl to create videos of her engaging in sexual activity.
The sentencing took place in Greenville court. The Misdemeanant Confinement Program governs his 100-day jail term. The suspended sentences remain active as part of the court's order.
