Henderson residents will see 44 new police officers on the streets after the largest class in the department's history graduated on Thursday. Anthony Rosas and Tiffany Harris were among the recruits who finished their training at the Henderson Police Academy. They completed the program after 26 weeks of instruction.

The recruits began their time at the academy six months ago. Harris recalled the intensity of their first day. “That first day was invigorating. You’re terrified. It’s a lot of noise and yelling and physical strength building and training,” Harris said. Early lessons focused on standing at attention, following commands, and building physical endurance.

Rosas and Harris spent the months mastering skills ranging from firearms safety to handling high-risk calls. Rosas emphasized the mental aspect of the work. “You have to be dedicated to this. You have be disciplined. It’s like our model: discipline today, trust in tomorrow. It’s that in the essence,” Rosas said. The class supported one another through the demanding schedule.

Harris noted that the group relied on each other to finish. “It’s been so much of just studying together, working out, and just sleepless nights. But we did it together, and we were on the other side,” Harris said. The camaraderie helped them push through the rigorous curriculum.

On graduation day, the recruits walked across the stage to officially become Henderson police officers. Harris reflected on the journey. “So for me to be here at the very end, it shows a lot about tenacity, perseverance, consistency, hard work,” Harris said. Rosas said he remained confident in his ability to complete the program.

Rosas stated, “There was never a doubt, because this is what I want to do, and this is what I chose to do professionally.” The class of 44 represents the biggest single addition to the force since the department's founding.

The new officers will not patrol alone immediately. Their next step is field training, where they will work alongside experienced officers before taking on independent assignments.
