Brittany Schrecengost faces a new traffic charge following a viral crash in Laughlin. Court records show she is accused of displaying a fake or suspended license plate or title. She is scheduled for arraignment in January.
The original incident occurred on Dec. 15. Surveillance video captured a car smashing through the backyard wall of a home on a residential street. The vehicle became airborne and landed in the homeowner's swimming pool. The crash gained national attention after the video spread online.
Cletis Reed, the homeowner, stated the driver crashed through the wall while he was inside the house. Reed pulled Schrecengost from the water after the impact. The arrest report notes Schrecengost admitted to drinking two beers and a shot of Jameson before the collision. Reed said he had planned to relax in the Jacuzzi that evening.
Reed estimated the repair costs at approximately $225,000. He reported seeing a psychiatrist for several months due to post-traumatic stress disorder. He described changes in his personality, including increased anger. Reed said he has not received an apology from Schrecengost. He noted that he hears loud noises from passing cars, which still startle him.
Schrecengost previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license, and driving without insurance. The court sentenced her to DUI school and community service. She also faced charges for speeding and expired registration. Reed said he believes the new incident suggests the driver needs to grow up.
The new charge adds to the legal aftermath of the December collision. Reed described the experience as life-changing. He said he has no ill will toward Schrecengost but emphasized the need for accountability.
Attempts to reach Schrecengost for comment were unsuccessful. A person who answered her phone in December said she was not available to speak. The arraignment for the new charge is set for next month.
