NV Energy accepts applications for green power rider
The utility will take applications for its renewable energy program through the end of the month, offering two tiers for customers in Northern and Southern Nevada.

Las Vegas residents and businesses can apply to NV Energy’s NV GreenEnergy Rider program until Nov. 30. The utility will match enrolled customers’ electricity usage with energy from renewable sources.
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada approved the updated program structure in 2021. Customers who join pay their standard rates plus an additional charge to offset their specific energy use.
The program offers two distinct choices. The first option, which uses existing renewable facilities, is open to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Participants in this tier can choose to have 50% or 100% of their monthly usage matched with renewable energy.
A second option is available only to large commercial customers with an average annual demand of 1 megawatt or more. These customers work with NV Energy to identify new renewable resources. They must sign a special contract that is filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada for approval.
To apply, customers must email a signed letter of intent as a PDF to the utility’s designated address. The document must include basic account information, annual energy consumption, and the desired subscription amount.
NV Energy has allocated initial allotments of up to 50,990 megawatt-hours for Northern Nevada customers and 106,000 megawatt-hours for Southern Nevada customers. This capacity is sufficient to serve approximately 57 megawatts of demand combined.
The utility will guarantee an allotment to each eligible applicant if interest does not exceed the available energy in a service territory. If demand is higher than capacity, NV Energy will use a lottery system to assign spots. Accepted customers will sign a Renewable Energy Agreement that details pricing, contract terms, and compliance requirements. Pricing depends on the cost of the underlying renewable resources and is updated annually. Program limits and pricing will take effect on July 1 and remain in place through June 30, 2028.
