Solano County prosecutors charged a 17-year-old with two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, and three counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The charges stem from a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in California that took place on Oct. 30. The district attorney’s office announced the filing of several weapons enhancements alongside the primary counts.
The attack killed 31-year-old Constance Hages, a mother of four, and her unborn child. Six other people were injured during the incident. As of Monday, four of those victims remained in the hospital. A 19-year-old man was listed in critical condition, while victims aged 16, 23, and 32 were in stable condition. Two additional victims, ages 19 and 43, were treated and released from the hospital.
Prosecutors are requesting that the teen be tried as an adult. The suspect made an initial appearance in juvenile court on Wednesday morning. The court held the 17-year-old without bail.
Hages’ family created a GoFundMe page to cover funeral expenses and provide support for her four children. The family wrote that the loss has left them grieving a pain that words can barely hold.
