Sasha Hart and David Hart died in a head-on collision on the Parks Highway near Trapper Creek on Oct. 19. Alaska State Troopers reported that the 38-year-old mother and 41-year-old father were traveling south in a Subaru Forester when the vehicle crossed the center line. The car struck a northbound Ford F-250. Their 2-year-old daughter, Paige, was also inside the Subaru.

The couple had lived in Fairbanks for a decade, where they celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary shortly before the crash. Family members described a household that blended Sasha’s Jamaican heritage with David’s Alaskan roots. They frequently traveled, watched hockey, and shared an interest in food.

Shery Elterman-Hart, David’s sister, held Paige during a recent interview. She told reporters, “She’s a miracle. Aren’t you?” Elterman-Hart noted that the couple had been close with David’s family before meeting, and Sasha quickly integrated into their circle.

Paige suffered six broken bones in the accident. Her aunt Katie Ragsdale said the child is healing quickly. Ragsdale pointed out that Paige retains physical traits from both parents, including her mother’s facial expression and her father’s preference for sweets.

Ragsdale stated that Paige was central to the couple’s daily lives. “She was their entire world,” Ragsdale said. “I don’t know if it’s Paige’s house or their house.” The family noted that Paige remains a living connection to her parents as she recovers at home.

Troopers identified the crash site on the highway near Trapper Creek. The investigation confirmed the Subaru crossed into oncoming traffic. Paige continues to recover from her injuries in Fairbanks.
