A Florida mother who had been working in Las Vegas was arrested after a child under her care was injured.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, a child called 911 on Oct. 21 after a dumbbell fell on a 9-year-old boy's head. Fire rescue transported the boy to the hospital.
When deputies arrived at the home, they found four children, ages 14, 12, 11 and 9, without an adult present. The responding deputy reached the mother, Irene Miller, 50, who said she had been working in Las Vegas since Oct. 18 and planned to return Oct. 23.
Miller told the deputy that a babysitter came from Tampa each morning to prepare the children for school and check on them after classes ended, but she did not require the sitter to remain at the home overnight.
The 9-year-old was treated and discharged from the hospital. Authorities contacted the children's father and transferred custody of the four children to his home. Detectives met Miller at the airport when she arrived from Las Vegas on Oct. 23.
Miller faces four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm and was booked into the Orange County jail.
