A Clark County School District bus aide is facing child abuse charges after a child left a moving bus through its rear door.

Carmina Nicole Morris of Las Vegas was arrested Oct. 20 following the Oct. 19 incident, according to an arrest report obtained by investigators with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The report states officers reviewed about 19 minutes of bus video, photos of the child's injuries, and a medical report. In the video, Morris sits on the driver's side two seats from the rear and appears to sleep or not notice her surroundings. The child removes his restraints, crawls beneath seats toward the back, sits behind the last passenger-side seat while the bus travels above 67 mph on the freeway, then moves behind Morris's seat and remains there for several minutes. The child later stands at the rear door as the bus slows at Tenaya Way and Alexander Road. He opens the door, an alarm sounds, the bus accelerates to 11 mph, and the child falls out.

Officers reported Morris did not react to activity inside the bus for about 19 minutes. Once the alarm sounded, video shows her standing, realizing the child had fallen, and exiting the rear door to reach him.

Investigators met with Morris on Oct. 20 at a bus yard in Henderson. She received her Miranda warnings, signed a waiver to speak with police, and was then booked into the Clark County Detention Center. Asked whether she had been asleep, Morris denied it and cited motion sickness. The officer said the child had moved freely for more than 19 minutes and asked why she did not notice him out of his seat; Morris replied, "he moves really fast." Asked if the child had previously gotten out of his harness on the bus, she said, "all the time." The officer wrote that Morris had no answer when asked why she was unaware of activity inside the bus.

Morris is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 8, 2027.
