Los Angeles, California. The University of Southern California Trojans defeated No. 2 Ohio State 30-18 on Saturday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The win came one week after USC lost to Wisconsin, a game that had intensified scrutiny of head coach Lincoln Riley and the program's season.

Freshman running back Trent Mosley opened the scoring with a 69-yard touchdown on the second play of the game. Mosley caught a screen pass and ran through a large opening in the Ohio State defensive line. Later in the first quarter, Mosley returned a punt 50 yards to set up a running back touchdown for Waymond Jordan. The Trojans led 14-0 by the end of the first quarter, a total that already exceeded their seven points scored in the previous game.

The Trojans defense held Ohio State to just three field goals in the first three quarters. Ohio State quarterback Luke Fahey moved the ball well, accumulating 137 yards in the first quarter alone. However, the Buckeyes failed to reach the end zone until the fourth quarter. USC defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren noted that stopping a goal-line rush late in the second quarter demonstrated the team's toughness. That stop prevented Ohio State from taking the lead or extending it significantly.

The decisive play of the game came in the third quarter. After USC linebacker Desman Stephens II forced a fumble, freshman tight end Mark Bowman caught the ensuing pass. Bowman ran 70 yards for a touchdown, hurdling one defender and evading two others to score. The play extended USC's lead to 21-12. Bowman had not played in a month due to an injury and was on a limited playing time.

Coach Lincoln Riley addressed the criticism from the previous week during his postgame press conference. He read a statement saying the program is built on internal joy rather than external applause. Riley stated that he is the right person for the job and that he cares about what the staff and players believe. He pointed to the team's ability to stay together despite the season's challenges. The Trojans ran for 116 yards, with King Miller and Waymond Jordan averaging five yards per carry. Quarterback Jayden Maiava passed for 222 yards, though 139 of those yards came from two long completions.

USC fans stormed the field after the final whistle. The crowd celebrated in the rain, with many jumping into the field from the bleachers. The victory marks the first time Riley has beaten a top-10 team at home during his tenure. The Trojans improved their record and remain in contention for the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State finished the game with 464 total yards, including 204 on the ground. The Buckeyes went 7 of 16 on third-down conversions. USC's next game has not been detailed in the immediate postgame reports, but the team will prepare for its next opponent in the regular season.
