Lionsgate U.K.’s horror-comedy Ghosts: The Possession of Button House opened at number one on the U.K. and Ireland box office chart, grossing 2.4 million pounds, or 3.2 million dollars, over its first three days. The performance places the film ahead of the newly released DC horror thriller Clayface from Warner Bros., which opened in second position with 2.6 million dollars.

The new release dominated the top of the chart, leaving little room for other premieres. Amazon MGM Studios’ comedy Ali G: Who Iz I? took third place with 1.7 million dollars. Black Bear’s animated fantasy Wildwood, directed by Travis Knight, followed in fourth with 1.36 million dollars. Paramount’s Street Fighter, which had led the previous weekend, slipped to fifth in its second outing, adding 1.35 million dollars to its cumulative total of 5.6 million dollars.

Universal’s Forgotten Island held steady in sixth place during its second weekend, earning 1.2 million dollars for a running total of 3.7 million dollars. Sony’s psychological thriller Verity, the adaptation of a Colleen Hoover novel, moved into seventh in its fourth week, adding 857,067 dollars to reach 14.4 million dollars in total receipts. Universal’s Other Mommy landed in eighth place in its third session with 576,822 dollars, bringing its gross to 6.2 million dollars.

Mubi’s drama Fatherland debuted at number nine, collecting 264,083 dollars from 86 theaters. The film achieved a screen average of 3,144 dollars per site, the fourth highest among new releases that weekend. Including preview screenings, the drama’s total opening reached 415,017 dollars, a figure that surpassed Pawel Pawlikowski’s previous best launch in the territory with Cold War. Studiocanal’s animated film Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom completed the top ten in its sixth week, adding 408,089 dollars to its 6.1 million dollar cumulative total.

In a limited engagement, Mubi’s documentary Making Marie Antoinette opened on six screens, taking 1,737 dollars over the weekend. The total for the release stood at 24,355 dollars. This opening marks the start of a staggered rollout that will expand to more cinemas before Park Circus re-releases Sofia Coppola’s 2006 feature Marie Antoinette on November 13.

Mid-week programming begins on Tuesday with a Trafalgar Releasing broadcast of the Royal Ballet’s Manon. On Wednesday, the music documentary Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning, directed by Ben Wainwright-Pearce, will show in more than 100 locations. A major wave of releases hits Friday across more than 300 screens.

Leading those Friday wide releases is Disney’s Everest: The Other Side, a mountain survival documentary directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. A24’s dark comedy Primetime, directed by Lance Oppenheim and starring Robert Pattinson, also arrives that day. Black Bear’s comedy Wicker, featuring Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgard, Peter Dinklage, and Elizabeth Debicki, and Kaleidoscope Entertainment’s family comedy Arnie & Barney join the wide slate.

Other Friday titles include Universal’s comedy I Love Boosters, directed by Boots Riley and starring Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Demi Moore, and LaKeith Stanfield. Action Xtreme’s Bad Day at the Office and Munro Films’ documentary Peter Asher: Everywhere Man will also play in over 100 sites. A 20th anniversary 4K restoration of Pan’s Labyrinth will show in over 100 locations. Specialized titles include Netflix’s Gentle Monster, directed by Marie Kreutzer, and a 25th anniversary 4K re-release of Donnie Darko in 25 locations. The weekend concludes Saturday with a live viewing of the BTS World Tour in Sao Paulo.
