Hertl Scores With 32 Seconds Left, Golden Knights Top Penguins 3-2

Tomas Hertl deflected a Mark Stone pass past Arturs Silovs with 32 seconds remaining in regulation on Tuesday night, lifting the Vegas Golden Knights to a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena. The goal arrived immediately after the Golden Knights successfully defended a 5-on-3 power play.

Hertl finished with two goals, including his sixth of the season late in the first period. Adin Hill turned aside 23 shots for Vegas, which arrived in Pittsburgh following a shootout loss in Boston. The victory marked only the second time the franchise has won in Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh forward Tommy Novak scored and added an assist during a third-period rally before drawing a tripping penalty after the teams returned to even strength. Hertl converted on the ensuing power play, handing the Penguins their third straight loss. Pittsburgh fell for the seventh time in its last nine games.

The Penguins briefly took the lead when Novak and Rickard Rakell erased a one-goal deficit. Rakell scored for the fourth consecutive contest. Trevor Connelly answered with a breakaway goal for Vegas at the 8:41 mark of the third period to tie the game.

Silovs stopped 20 shots for Pittsburgh, which played without forward Evgeni Malkin due to a lower-body injury. Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby did not record a point and remains tied with Marcel Dionne for sixth on the NHL's all-time scoring list with 1,771 points.

Mitch Marner registered the primary assist on Hertl's first goal, extending his points streak to 11 games. The Golden Knights continue their road trip Thursday in Detroit, while the Penguins host Boston at PPG Paints Arena the same day.
