The National Weather Service issued a beach hazards statement for Malibu, Los Angeles County, and Ventura County beaches on Sunday at 10:29 a.m. The advisory remains in effect from noon Sunday until 6 p.m. on Monday, November 2.

Forecasters predict dangerous rip currents and breaking waves caused by elevated surf during this window. Minor tidal overflow is expected during high tides. The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard office noted that tides will reach 7 feet as early as Friday. Peak tides of 7.0 to 7.8 feet are forecast to continue through early next week.

Elevated surf is likely to increase flood impacts, particularly on beaches facing west to northwest. The agency stated that water may flow over normally dry sand and into lower parking lots or paths. Moderate beach erosion is also possible. The NWS confirmed that tide figures have been corrected to align with the most recent actual tide observations.

Officials warned of an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea, while waves may wash people off beaches and rocks. Small boats nearshore face the risk of capsizing.

The service advised the public to stay out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions. If people do enter the water, they should stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties are described as deadly in these conditions, so the NWS urged visitors to stay off the rocks.
