The Chicago White Sox have hired Matt Roffe from the Milwaukee Brewers front office to lead their amateur scouting operations. The appointment was reported by The Athletic on Thursday and confirmed by multiple outlets.
Roffe was hired by the Brewers in 2025 as assistant director of domestic scouting. He previously served as the manager and coordinator of scouting operations for Milwaukee. His tenure with the Brewers began in 2021.
Before joining the Brewers, Roffe worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2019 to 2021. He served as a player personnel and pro scouting analyst during that period. His time in Arizona overlapped with Josh Barfield, who now holds the position of assistant general manager for the White Sox.
Roffe fills the vacancy created when Mike Shirley resigned from the White Sox on September 12. Shirley departed following an internal investigation into allegations of verbal harassment. The team had been without a director of amateur scouting since that resignation.
MLB.com states that Roffe will run the White Sox amateur draft. However, the official title and full scope of his responsibilities have not yet been finalized. The organization has not announced a specific start date for his new role.
The hiring occurred less than 24 hours after the Brewers defeated their opponents to win the World Series. Roffe was a member of the championship front office staff.
